When the time comes that a loved one can no longer care for themselves, but they are still able to live in their home, the solution is home care services in the Bay Area. This could be in the form of in-home nursing, for Bay Area residents and others, or it could be that you will have to hire a private nurse in the Bay Area. Depending on the circumstances of your loved one, you may need to find alternative caregiver services in the Bay Area. For those in the hospital, this may include hospital sitting. Bay Area medical professionals will be able to assist you in finding the appropriate service.

What is hospital sitting? Bay Area residents may already be familiar with this form of care, but for those who are not, let’s have a look at what exactly is involved in providing this form of care. A sitter provides a level of care as well as supervision and companionship for hospitalized persons who prove challenging for staff. This could be for a number of reasons, but all the reasons have the same end result, which is that the patient is in need of being restrained or placed in a seclusion room. There are other circumstances, but in most cases the patient presents behaviours and actions that require them to be restrained or supervised for their own health and safety as well as the safety of hospital staff.

In an effort to come up with a more compassionate solution than strapping a patient to a bed, healthcare providers hit upon a solution of having a person in the room with the troublesome patient.

This approach involves having a person, in a job role known as hospital sitting for Bay Area folks, spend time in the hospital room with the patient. Although the job has sitting in the name, it’s not just planting yourself in a chair until the shift is over. The position involves getting up to stop the person from pulling on hospital equipment, such as tubes and wires.

Other behaviours are also monitored and discouraged by the sitter, according to instructions from hospital staff. The intent is that the sitter would intervene, stopping the person

from doing whichever prohibited action they are prone to doing. In this way, the person is doing the same thing that the restraints would have done.

The role of a private nurse in the Bay Area is completely different. The sitter provides companionship and a level of care generally considered not to require medical training. A private nurse, in the Bay Area or elsewhere, is trained in medical care and is considered a healthcare professional. Unlike other nursing roles, this one does not involve working in a hospital. In fact, the entire point of a private nurse in the Bay Area is that they do not work in a hospital. Instead, they go to a person’s home to provide care. The reason for this is that the person requiring care is unable to fully care for themselves, and needs assistance with their medical needs. In some cases, mobility issues prevent the person from making it to the hospital. An example of what private nurses may be required to do can be seen in the case of a person requiring medications delivered through injection or IV on a daily or weekly basis. Instead of the person going to the hospital for their health care needs, the health care comes to them. A nurse shows up at the person’s home with all the required equipment and administers the medication or treatment.

There are several benefits to this. First, it is a more humane and compassionate approach to providing care that allows the person to go about their daily life as they normally would, while being able to enjoy the comforts of home. Second, it frees up hospital space for more urgent care. If the private nurse for Bay Area patients did not visit patients at home, the patient could possibly be required to spend the entire time of their treatment in the hospital. Let’s use the example of a person who requires a series of antibiotic IV injections to clear up a non-debilitating infection as an example. Aside from the need for treatment, this person feels fine, and is able to comfortably perform their normal daily routine. This means that, aside from getting the injections, there is no further care required. The doctor determines how long the treatment should go on for. In this case, let’s say it’s a one-week course of treatments twice a day. Without in home nursing in the Bay Area, this person would be required to be admitted to the hospital where they would occupy a bed for the entire week. This disrupts their routine and possibly affects their mental well-being. Staying in the hospital with nothing to do can be a bit taxing on a person’s state of mind.

However, all of that can be avoided if a private nurse for Bay Area residents is available to make home visits. There is still the possibility of a required hospital visit for initial treatment and to insert the IV, but then the person would be free to return home for care. This is a much more favorable option for the patient.

Caregiver services in the Bay Area can take many forms. They are not all healthcare functions, but can involve a level of medical care, such as ensuring medications are taken on time and in the proper amount. Generally, the need for caregiver services in the Bay Area begins with a medical need, either due to a critical illness or reduced mobility or other issues related to being ill or being of advanced years. In other words, a healthy and mobile person generally has no need for someone to provide care to them.

Depending on a person’s medical needs, in home nursing for Bay Area residents may be the ideal solution. To find out if in-home care is an appropriate option for your loved one, consult a medical professional, such as a family doctor.
