7 Years and Counting
It gives me great joy to share my recent experience at the Harvard Medical School. Dee and I attended a two-and-one-half-day course called Practical Aspects of Palliative Care: Integrating Palliative Care into Clinical Practice (PAPC). I enjoyed this program more than any other trainings I’ve had because I witnessed fellow clinicians’ desire to humanize health care. I felt proud to be part of an event with a very profound objective: an enhanced quality of life for patients and their families dealing with life-threatening and/or serious illness.
I love the concept of family. At work, my employees are my second family; I had this mentality that through thick and thin, they would stick around. This year, when 3 employees left to pursue other options, my initial reaction consisted of shock and disbelief. What’s going on? What will others have to say about Care Indeed? My fears consumed me. However, once I decided to step back, I realized that I was only imagining things, even threats, that weren’t even there. I was more worried about what others would think of. The potential for growth lies ahead, so I got back on track and decided to focus on how we can improve the way we take care of our people. I admit that there’s still a lot to learn, but we are getting there. This change in mindset has allowed me to renew my relationship with those who left. They’re still family, and they always will be.
Care Indeed’s 7th anniversary is this month. My Care Indeed family and I have been through a lot. Amidst the pains of a growing company, I’ve seen resiliency and grit. At Care Indeed, we understand that to be alive is a privilege. We cherish life’s every moment, from beginning until the end. Life is a celebration, and we are committed to making this a reality. There have been low points or setbacks, and we see them as an opportunity for growth. What counts is how we manage to bounce back each time we’re down. My mother taught me this: it’s not how many times we fall that matters, it’s how many times we get back on our feet. At Care Indeed, we’ve faced many challenges. We’re still here. We’ll be here for another 7 years and more!
